Nicolas Duguet graduated from Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) of Rouen in 2003 and received his Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Rouen, under the supervision of Dr. Jacques Maddaluno working on chiral lithium amides. During his Ph.D. studies, he spent some time working in collaboration with Pr. Kiyoshi Tomioka in Kyoto University, Japan. In 2007, he joined the group of Dr. Andrew D. Smith at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK as a postdoctoral fellow (Leverhulme Trust) where he stayed for two years developing novel organocatalytic methodologies using N-heterocyclic carbenes. He moved back to France in 2009 for second postdoc in medicinal chemistry at the University of Orléans under the guidance of Pr. Sylvain Routier. In 2010, he was appointed assistant professor at the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and was affiliated to the Institut de Chimie et Biochimie Moléculaires & Supramoléculaires (ICBMS) in the group of Pr Marc Lemaire. He is now associate professor (habilitation in 2016) in the team Catalysis, Synthesis & Environment (CASYEN), working in the field of green chemistry and sustainable development.
His current work aims at the development of original catalytic methods mainly based on (supported) organocatalysis but also on organometallic species (homogeneous and heterogeneous). He is particularly interested in developing new methodologies with high atom economy with a particular attention to the use of non-toxic solvents or solvent-free conditions. New reactivities are explored to allow the transformation of molecules from biomass (polyols and sugars, vegetable oils, fatty acids, glycerol, etc.) and CO2. These methods are applied to the preparation of “building-blocks” with higher added value or products of interest such as surfactants, solvents, antimicrobials and monomers.
